Fishing in Pompano Beach Club Bermuda makes for perfect bone fishing !
Bermuda is a fisherman's paradise! Over the years, many world record game fish have been caught in the waters around Bermuda. In fact, the island is regarded as one of the best places in the world to fish for Blue Marlin. Pompano was once Bermuda's first fishing club, so it's only fitting that you consider squeezing a little fishing into your vacation! There are basically three types of fishing available to you in Bermuda: Deep Sea Fishing, Reef Fishing and Shoreline Fishing (from a dock, beach or land - with no boat involved). Full or half day deep sea fishing charters are the best way to try and "catch the big one", because the large charter boats (which are all licensed and fully-inspected, with state-of-the art equipment) can easily reach the deeper waters of the Gulf Stream. It usually takes an hour or two for most boats to reach the popular deep sea fishing spots. Charter boat rates are approximately $850 per boat for a half day (four hours), $1000 for six hours and approximately $1200 for a full day (eight hours). Most deep sea fishing involves trolling, however, when the Yellowfin Tuna are "running", the boats will often stop to chum and drop lines. Deep sea fishing trips can be arranged for you by contacting the resort's front desk. Pompano has several top notch deep sea boats that they regularly recommend. Some charter boats operate year round, however, the best deep sea fishing is from May to November (when the water is warmer). All charter boats are skippered by licensed captains who are experienced in Bermuda's waters. Their boats are equipped with all the rods, fishing tackle and bait that you'll need, electronic communication equipment, life-saving gear (ie-life jackets and life rafts) and toilet facilities. You supply your own refreshments (snacks and beverages). Types of fish that are commonly caught on deep sea fishing trips are: Wahoo, Amberjack, Barracuda, Dolphin fish (Mahi Mahi), Blue Marlin, White Marlin, Atlantic Sailfish, Blackfin Tuna, Yellowfin Tuna, Little Tunny and Rainbow Runner. Reef fishing is very popular in Bermuda's waters due to the abundance of coral reefs around the island (which attract fish of all kinds). Typically, you can expect to catch considerably more fish when reef fishing than deep sea fishing, however, the fish are usually quite a bit smaller than those caught in the deeper waters. If you prefer "quantity" over "quality" and like the thought of pulling in lots of fish, then reef fishing may be your best option. Most reef fishing trips are for approximately four hours because it doesn't take very long to reach the popular reef fishing spots (each boat captain has their favorites) - most of which are in close proximity to the island. Pompano's front desk staff can recommend a few good reef fishing boats if you are interested. Reef fishing trips are much less costly than deep sea trips, typically costing around $90 per person for a half day (four hour) trip (inclusive of fishing tackle and bait).
